Begin with a moisturizer that contains UVA and UVB filters as UVA light is skin-ageing and present constantly. Complexion-wise, you want to avoid joining the shiny set, so if your T-zone tends to be oily, apply a blotting lotion on top of your moisturizer. These lotions are usually slightly tinted liquids that contain suspended particles of powder that act like blotting paper beneath your regular foundation or face powder. You can apply them just where you need them, rather than all over.
A natural-looking base gives a working girl the edge. Try one of the contemporary foundation-and- powder-in-one mixes which do both jobs effectively and can be quickly retouched during the day. The compacts contain a latex sponge to apply the base - the sponge doesn't need to be dampened first.
Use eyeshadows that pick up on the colours in your clothes, playing the shades down rather than up, and keep the application techniques simple. A touch of eye pencil is long-lasting and won't need maintaining during the day. Check that your mascara is smudge-proof and that it defines the lashes without making them look thick or clogged with make-up. If your mascara tends to smudge under your eyes, try applying it to the top lashes only or consider using a waterproof type.
Keep blusher to the minimum-you may prefer to skip it altogether.
Lipsticks are often most effective when they are in strong, matte shades and so are more assertive: try true reds, burgundies, deep or rust browns. Avoid paler shades like pastel pink or peach, particularly when they are glossy or frosted.
Remember to check that your nails are manicured and also add polish. A transparent top coat is enough to give your hands that important cared-for look.
